I’ve worked in IT for what seems like forever. It seems like each job I’ve had has had a very different focus.

One theme from job to job has been that I haven’t worked anythwere with an excessive budget. Most of the mundane tasks have required a “roll your own” approach as software packages specific to smaller tasks were not in the cards for the departments. Additionally, staffing has never been at a premium so the ability to get it done quickly has always trumped the need to have flawless scripts. So, the examples I present here aren’t intended to provide starting points (all specific info has been stripped out) and very little error checking.

My experience includes:

  • Voice Systems
    • Cisco Call Managers
    • Cisco Unity
    • Asterisk
  • Network Engineering including:
    • Cisco IOS and CATOS Switches and Chassis.
    • Cisco PIX
    • Cisco Wireless Services including IOS and WLC
    • Juniper Firewalls and Switches
    • 3Com switches
    • FOSS Routers and Firewalls
    • Astaro Security Gateway
  • Windows Server
    • Server 2000
    • Server 2003
    • Exchange
    • Active Directory
    • MS Project
  • Linux Servers
    • Apache Server farms
    • mySQL Server Farms
    • Email Servers (sendmail, postfix, exim)
    • Mailing List Management
    • Samba & Samba Integration with Active Directory
    • Network Load Balancing
    • Nagios Network Monitoring
    • Opennms Network Monitoring
  • Software Development
    • PHP Programming
    • Javascript & CSS
    • Java development
    • Perl Programming
    • XML and Related Languages (XSLT, etc…)
    • Multifactor Authentication Methods for Distributed Applications
    • Many others with varying levels of familiarity….

Take what you will from the info I provide. I don’t warrant it to be useful to you, or to even work in any situation other than my own. If it does work for you then thats great. Pass it along. If it doesn’t hopefully these examples will give you a starting point - where to start, or what direction NOT to take.

Enjoy,
